The Sundog is a derivation of the Cirrus, sharing the same construction techniques and driver DNA, but with a smaller footprint and more flexible implementation due to a thoughtful use of materials and optimized processes. Features shared with the Cirrus family of speakers are:
– Stacked lamination of CNC cut 13-ply void free Baltic Birch Ply for incredible stiffness and resonance control
– Proprietary, engineered Acoustic Inversion Layer designed to further destroy any resonances and greatly reduce sound transmission through cabinet walls
– Constrained layer construction used on top and bottom panels, and front baffle
– Large front round over reduces cabinet edge diffraction
– Complex curved internal shape eliminates standing waves and backwave reflections
– Crossover components can be housed in our matching stands, isolating them from vibrations
The Sundog takes the core of what we learned with the Cirrus and delivers in a smaller package, ideal for tighter spaces. The RAAL tweeter used in The Sundog is truly a revelation, no other high-frequency transducer sounds so fast, so accurate, so right. It’s also extremely linear with flat extension past 40khz. But it’s the speed, in how fast it starts AND stops that sets the RAAL apart. Don’t confuse it with any other ribbon tweeter available, there’s none of the ‘ribbon’ added decay and overhang. The RAAL tweeter is also very dynamic and robust, unlike other ribbons on the market.
And like the Cirrus, the Sundog pairs the incomparable RAAL tweeter with your choice of an AudioTechnology or Accuton woofer to create either Sundog Black or Sundog White. Furthermore to facilitate integration into smaller spaces, either Sundog variety is available as a sealed or ported design.
The intent of the Sundog was to bring Cirrus-like refinement, resolution, and musicality to Audiophiles challenged by smaller listening spaces. And in that vein, the Sundog overachieves. Ideal for tighter spaces, the Sundog also has plenty of output and dynamics necessary for medium sized rooms as well.
Also available is a matching Sundog Center Channel speaker for intimate Home Theater installations. And the Sundog Center also makes a perfect match with the Cirrus!
The Sundog White was also designed with tube lovers in mind. It presents a very easy load with a minimum of 6.2 ohm, and the majority of range at 8 ohm or higher. The Sundog White is a true 8 ohm Nominal load, and has been tested extensively on tube gear to ensure no surprises on delivery.
Black vs. White
Here at Vapor Audio we realize that there’s no such thing as “right” for everyone. When dealing with perception of a human sense, individual taste is all that matters. To give customers options, and ability to fit our designs to their taste, we offer most speakers in Black and White versions. Tonally they will be nearly identical, afterall they are both voiced by the same set of human ears. But the difference is what one might expect from a soft cone woofer versus a hard cone. Black versions offer softer mineral filled poly cone drivers, while White versions offer harder pure ceramic cone drivers. The softer cone will smooth transients giving a warmer, more romantic presentation. The harder cone will give a very fast delivery of transients and a more lively presenation, with added detail retrieval.
It’s important to note the White is never forward or fatiguing, and the Black is never reticent or overly laid-back. Black and White offer different versions of essentially the same sound, options are a good thing. And with each the crossover is optimized for the individual requirements of the unique driver compliment.
Sundog White pricing starts at $3895/pair
